Impact

By choosing to visit us at Samara, guests actively contribute to the ongoing restoration and preservation of the Great Karoo’s unique biodiversity, ensuring its magic endures for future generations.

The notion of regenerative tourism was certainly not part of the lingua franca when Samara was established in 1997. Yet in many ways the concept that travel can be a catalyst for social and environmental regeneration has permeated our story since the beginning. Samara has always been a purpose-driven business, guided by a deep passion for the wild spaces of the Great Karoo. Our North Star is our unwavering belief in the magic of this special place, our long-term vision for its restoration and our desire to create exceptional experiences through which to share the Karoo with others.

To this end, Samara embraces a holistic approach to sustainability guided by a framework of the “4Cs”: Conservation, Community, Culture and Commerce. This is the approach advocated by The Long Run, a global collection of the world’s most sustainable nature-based tourism operations. As a vetted member of The Long Run, we continuously monitor our impact and progress towards our sustainability goals across each of the 4Cs.
